As we head swiftly towards a celebration of providing 50 years of quality education to young people in Ipswich, I would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you to St Peter Claver College.
The Claver community prides itself on its modern approach to excellence in co-educational learning and teaching; focused on the inherent value of each student and the explicit development of authentic and respectful relationships focused on knowing our students and walking with them as they strive to reach their personal capabilities.
We are a proud Catholic educational community, blessed to have at our core the spiritual and pedagogical ethos of two saints: St Peter Claver and St Marcellin Champagnat. It is because of this joint ethos that St Peter Claver College places an emphasis on quality learning and teaching which caters to all learners regardless of background, race, gender or socio-economic status. We believe that teaching through St Peter Claver’s lens of respect for human dignity and St Marcellin Champagnat’s lens of Presence, Simplicity, Family Spirit, Love of Work and In the Way of Mary, that we can and do impact on students’ learning; inspiring them to go forward and have their own positive impact on the future world they will live in and lead.
All students at St Peter Claver College receive a well-rounded education which strengthens resilience, expects excellence, fosters self-confidence and social awareness, and develops an understanding of and respect for spirituality and faith in a safe and inclusive environment. It is because of our strong community and ethos that our teachers do not simply instruct. They mentor, coach, support, inspire, accept and celebrate the students in their care because they take the time to know them as individual learners and show them that education is a powerful tool which they can use to become the best version of themselves.
Claver is a respected and valued part of the Ipswich community, and we proudly rely on a trusting partnership with parents, caregivers, families and businesses as a means of developing adolescents into young adults who know they can impact positively on this community and beyond; doing so via the many and varied post-schooling pathways that best suit them as individuals upon graduation. I am humbled and energised to be Principal of St Peter Claver College and I take the responsibility of leading the College into its second 50 years of educational excellence very seriously. I look forward to welcoming new members into the Claver family as we continue to grow and flourish.
Yours in Concern, Love and Justice.
