Catholic Foundation – We are a faith filled community creating a better future.
St Peter Claver College is a faith filled community creating a better future through a Catholic co-educational learning environment that celebrates the uniqueness of each individual student.
St Peter Claver College is a co-educational secondary school that was founded in 1976 as a Catholic secondary pathway option for primary students from Sacred Heart, Booval.
The Marist Brothers established an important presence in the College from early in its history with the appointment of successive Principals. The College was also an original member of the Association of Marist Schools Australia from 1996 until its decommissioning in 2008, after which the College joined
Marist Schools Australia.
Named after St Peter Claver, a Spanish Jesuit priest and missionary, the College embraces his exceptional heart, imagination and dedication to promoting liberty, equality and a close relationship with each other and with God.
The Marist, Mercy and Jesuit influences combine to form our remarkable Catholic College which strives to live our motto Concern, Love and Justice every day.
St Peter Claver's Story
St Peter Claver was a Spanish Jesuit missionary who lived from 1580 – 1654.
St Peter Claver worked with the slaves in Columbia, South America for freedom and the humane treatment of all people, against oppressive challenges and ultimately for the growth of mutual respect and love.
Due to his life's work, he became the Patron Saint of Slaves. In 1896, Pope Leo XIII declared St Peter Claver the Patron Saint of African Missions. He is also the Patron Saint of Seafarers.
His life was dedicated to God, promoting liberty and defending human rights. He showed us an example of concern for the human condition, heroic love and acts of justice.
Faith at St Peter Claver College
At St Peter Claver College we are fortunate enough to have three patron Saints to guide us.
- St Peter Claver, after whom the College is named.
- St Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Brothers.
- Mary, the mother of Jesus.
The example set by our patrons' lives presents us with the challenge to live out our motto of Concern, Love and Justice every day.
Through the Pastoral Care system our students are encouraged to explore and develop their faith through the College curriculum, co-curricular activities and justice and service programs.
Liturgical and Prayer Life
From the Blessing and Commissioning of the Seniors, through to their farewell in November, Liturgy is at the heart of all of the College's major events.
Students are encouraged to be actively involved in the College prayer life, whether it be preparing or presenting the various Assembly prayers, holy day observances and major Liturgies for College events. Liturgy is also a major component of all of our College Camps and Retreats.
Certificate of Validation
St Peter Claver College is awarded a Certificate of Validation for our Religious Education Program.
