At St Peter Claver College we offer a diverse combination of academic, vocational, technological, cultural, sporting and leadership pathways designed to prepare and motivate students for success in the real world.
We also have a strong focus on holistic education and offer our Senior students rich experiences to facilitate intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual growth.
Individualised Learning Pathways
We have a proven track record of successfully individualising our learning programs to cater for elite academic students striving for a high Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), to those looking for industry experience via School-based Apprenticeships as part of their Senior schooling. Genuine personalisation of learning programs is part of the St Peter Claver College difference.
Guidance and Mentorship
Students in Years 11 and 12 regularly meet with highly engaged Course Mentors to review their personal Senior Education and Training Plans and refine goals and strategies, as well as adjust subject selections if required. Guidance in career and subject choices is provided for all Senior students and spans numerous learning pathways. Students also experience year level retreats appropriately tailored to their academic and pastoral progression.
Year 10
The Year 10 curriculum is designed to build on students’ Middle Years education and prepare them for their Year 11 and 12 subjects and assessment, including external exams, which are part of the Queensland Certificate of Education System (QCE), and for some students also part of the ATAR pathway.
All students study core subjects from the Australian Curriculum as well as Religious Education. Students may be recommended for extension subjects to accelerate their learning in English and Mathematics. All students also have the opportunity to undertake work experience and set goals through Career Education classes, with some also commencing Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses and School-based Apprenticeships.

Years 11 and 12
We recognise that our students wish to pursue a diverse range of post-schooling options, therefore we offer a suite of academic pathways that cater for their individual strengths and aspirations.
There are four academic pathways available to our Year 11 and 12 students:
-
ATAR Pathway: Best for high academic achievers (always As and Bs) who want to study at university. In most cases students will study at least five General subjects.
-
ATAR with Insurance Pathway: Best for students who are typically successful in their subjects (averaging Bs) and want to pursue university. Students will typically study four General subjects plus a Certificate III vocational subject.
-
Pre-requisites Plus Pathway: Best for students who are unsure of whether they want to go to university after graduating. Students will start with subjects that act as pre-requisites for tertiary while also doing a Certificate III vocational subject. They can then refine their career pathway and subject selection with their Course Mentor if needed.
-
Vocational Pathway: Best for students who wish to immediately start employment after graduating (e.g. Apprenticeship, Traineeship, TAFE courses or direct entry into the workforce). Students will typically choose more Certificate level and Applied subjects, as opposed to General subjects designed for university entry. Students will select the Mathematics subject that best suits their ability.
Our curriculum offerings are continually evolving and adjusted to meet the needs of our students. We continually access labour trends and tertiary course profiles to ensure the subjects we offer provide optimal progression to the career of choice for all students. We offer a spread of General and Applied subjects, and nationally recognised VET qualifications to appeal to all learner types and career directions. There is also scope for students to engage in School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships under certain circumstances.
Students work closely with Course Mentors to plan, select, track and review their subject choice and goals, ensuring they graduate with their desired results and/or qualifications and experience.
